The US Commerce Department has partnered with Chainlink to bring official government economic statistics directly to public blockchains, expanding access to trusted GDP and inflation data for decentralized applications.

Under the initiative, economic data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) will be distributed through Chainlink Data Feeds. The rollout covers six feeds based on three major US economic indicators: real gross domestic product (GDP), the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index and Real Final Sales to Private Domestic Purchasers.

Each indicator will be available as both a reported level and an annual rate of change. The PCE Price Index is particularly important because it is the Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge, while real GDP measures inflation-adjusted US economic output. Real Final Sales to Private Domestic Purchasers tracks spending by consumers and private businesses.

Chainlink will update the blockchain feeds monthly or quarterly in line with the BEA’s official publication schedule. This gives developers and blockchain applications access to the same government statistics distributed through conventional channels without having to manually transfer the data onchain.

The economic feeds are initially available across 10 blockchain networks: Ethereum, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Botanix, Linea, Mantle, Optimism, Sonic and ZKsync. Additional networks could be supported as demand grows.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the initiative would make US economic information more accessible globally while supporting the country’s ambition to become a major blockchain hub.

Bringing government economic data onchain could create new opportunities across decentralized finance and blockchain-based markets. Developers could use Chainlink’s official US economic data feeds to build inflation-linked assets, prediction markets, automated trading strategies and financial products that react to GDP, inflation and consumer spending releases.

The Commerce Department has also worked with other providers on its broader blockchain data initiative. A separate effort published second-quarter 2025 GDP figures on networks including Bitcoin and Solana, although Chainlink was not involved in that rollout.

The partnership further expands Chainlink’s role as infrastructure connecting blockchain networks with real-world financial and economic information.
