NTT Communications Thailand, the Thai subsidiary of telecoms giant NTT, is going to launch an innovation lab to facilitate the development and testing of advanced technologies including blockchain, internet of things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI), Bangkok Post reported.
The innovation lab is expected to open in the second quarter of 2019. It will be NTT’s first and largest innovation lab in the Asean region.
"The NTT innovation lab will introduce a playground for customers and partners to do proof-of-concept, development for disruptive technologies such as blockchain, IoT, AI, hybrid cloud and software-defined networks,” Manabu Kahara, president of NTT Communications Thailand, said.
Per the report, the lab can serve as “preventive maintenance for smart factories and blockchain solutions for financial and insurance sectors.”
Last month, NTT Communications launched the Nexcenter Lab program to promote open innovation in partnership with participating companies. The company said that the program will provide PoC environments for the development and testing of new businesses and services focused on digital transformation (DX).
“[Participants] will have access to ICT environments where extra-high-heat servers such as GPU can be used, as well as advanced services of NTT Com and partner companies, such as hybrid cloud, AI and IoT, which can be combined to verify technologies such as deep learning and blockchain,” the release said.
Earlier this month, South Korean telecom giant launched its blockchain-based fifth-generation (5G) network brand "GiGA Chain.”
