Pump.fun Launches Mobile App Amid Memecoin Boom

Memecoin generator Pump.fun has introduced a mobile app for iOS and Android, expanding access to its platform during the ongoing memecoin craze. The app mirrors the web interface, enabling users to create Solana-based memecoins for free, trade tokens, manage portfolios, and build customized watchlists on the go.

The launch follows a proposed class-action lawsuit against Pump.fun, alleging violations of U.S. securities laws. Despite legal challenges, the memecoin trend continues to grow, with Pump.fun doubling down on its commitment to the market.

Bobby Ong, co-founder of CoinGecko, highlighted that 600,000 new tokens were launched in January 2025 alone—a 12-fold increase from the same period in 2024. Ong credits this surge to token launchpads like Pump.fun, which simplify token creation for users without technical expertise. He noted that the rapid growth of new blockchains and decentralized exchanges could lead to 1 billion tokens in circulation within five years.

However, the influx of new tokens is fragmenting liquidity and trader attention. Ong emphasized that the abundance of tokens is diluting market focus, contributing to the lack of significant altcoin rallies seen in previous cycles.
