BBVA (BME:BBVA), one of Spain’s largest banks, has received regulatory approval to provide Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) trading services in the country. The bank announced on Monday that Spain’s securities regulator, the CNMV, has cleared its application, paving the way for the launch of crypto trading services via its mobile app.

With this move, BBVA becomes one of the first major banks in Spain to offer direct access to cryptocurrencies, allowing customers to buy, sell, and manage BTC and ETH securely. The bank aims to meet the growing demand for digital assets while ensuring compliance with local regulations.

BBVA has already been active in the crypto space, having launched similar services through its Swiss subsidiary in 2021. The expansion into Spain marks a significant step in integrating digital assets into traditional banking services, signaling broader institutional adoption of cryptocurrencies.

By providing crypto trading within its banking app, BBVA offers a seamless experience for clients looking to invest in Bitcoin and Ethereum without relying on third-party exchanges. This development aligns with the bank’s strategy to embrace blockchain technology while maintaining robust security measures.

As mainstream banks continue to explore digital assets, BBVA’s approval reflects the increasing acceptance of cryptocurrencies in the financial sector. This move could set a precedent for other European banks considering similar services.

BBVA’s entry into Spain’s crypto market reinforces the growing integration of blockchain-based assets into traditional finance, offering customers a regulated and secure way to engage with Bitcoin and Ethereum.
