The crypto market is once again witnessing a dramatic shift in power as XRP gains momentum against Ethereum, reviving memories of early 2018 when Ripple briefly surpassed ETH in market capitalization. What once seemed impossible is now becoming a serious discussion among investors as Ethereum struggles with internal challenges while XRP and the XRP Ledger continue expanding their influence in key sectors like real-world asset tokenization.

Ethereum’s recent governance concerns have intensified pressure on the network. Community criticism surrounding the Ethereum Foundation, combined with the departure of major developers, has raised doubts about the project’s long-term coordination and growth strategy. Even Vitalik Buterin has publicly addressed concerns about Ethereum’s direction, especially as liquidity continues to spread across numerous Layer-2 ecosystems. Many investors now view Ethereum’s fragmented structure as a weakness that reduces capital efficiency.

At the same time, Ripple and XRPL are gaining traction in areas traditional finance understands well. The XRP Ledger is increasingly being used for tokenized financial products, including tokenized bonds and institutional-grade assets. Major financial institutions, including JPMorgan, have reportedly explored blockchain-based tokenization solutions connected to XRPL infrastructure, strengthening Ripple’s position in the rapidly growing RWA market.

Investor sentiment is also shifting. Recent data shows Ethereum investment products experienced approximately $215 million in outflows, while XRP-related funds maintained positive inflows totaling around $22 million. This difference highlights growing confidence in XRP’s long-term utility and adoption potential.

Adding another layer to the competition is Hyperliquid (HYPE), which has become a major force in the crypto sector during 2026. The protocol now controls a large share of the on-chain fee market, while its native token has delivered strong yearly gains. Institutional investors have responded quickly, with firms such as Goldman Sachs reportedly reducing exposure to ETH and XRP before increasing interest in Hyperliquid-linked opportunities.

As the cryptocurrency landscape evolves, XRP’s renewed challenge to Ethereum is no longer viewed as unrealistic. The battle for altcoin dominance is becoming one of the biggest narratives in crypto for 2026.
