Aptos is a layer 1 blockchain developed by Aptos Labs. It is considered a Solana killer.
Consensus Mechanism- Aptos uses byzantine fault-tolerant(BFT),proof-of-stake consensus mechanism. Token holders lock, or stake, tokens in their selected validators. Each validator's consensus voting weight is proportional to the amount staked into it. A validator requires a minimum of 1 million tokens to participate in consensus. Aptos uses the BFT consensus protocol for validator nodes to decide which transactions to add to the blockchain.
Major components of Aptos core
Move Language-Move is a new smart contract programming language with an emphasis on safety and flexibility. The move ecosystem contains a compiler, a virtual machine, and many developer tools. Any assets in Move can be represented can be represented by or stored within the resource. The language can define custom resource types that cannot be copied or implicitly discarded, only moved between storage locations. Move guarantees resource, type, and memory safety.
Move Prover- Capable of verifying the correctness of a Move program. It provides additional safeguards for contract invariants and behavior.
Aptos uses decoupling of transaction dissemination block metadata ordering, parallel transaction execution, batch storage, and ledger certification to achieve high throughput and low latency.
Aptos features-
Transaction per second 4200
Block time finality- less than 1s
