Bitcoin was the most popular search query in the “What is…?” category among internet users in the United States and the United Kingdom, the Google Trends data for 2018 has revealed, Forklog reported.
In the U.S., a majority of internet users searched for “What is bitcoin?”, as compared to other queries such as “What is racketeering?” and “What is DACA?”. In addition, the search query “How to buy Ripple?” also turned out to be quite popular, taking the fourth place in the “How to…” category, while bitcoin claimed the eight spot.
In the UK, “What is bitcoin?” left behind “What is GDPR?” and “What is an ibex?” to take the top slot. The search query “How to buy Ripple?” was ranked at the seventh place in the UK.
In Switzerland, “Bitcoin” was a popular search query in the “Excitement and Scandals” category, coming second only to Meghan Markle.
Bitcoin was also the top search query in the “Domestic News/Issue” category in South Korea in the current year.
In Japan, most users searched for “What is bitcoin?”, while “What is virtual currency?” took the third spot. The search queries on virtual currency mechanism, bitcoin mechanism, and blockchain structure were also the most searched queries in the “Structure” category in the country.
According to the Google Trends data, “How to invest in bitcoin?” was a popular search query in India in 2018, which took the fifth place in the “How to…?” category. This is quite surprising given the current uncertain fate of cryptocurrencies in the country.
