During a recent interview with Turkish influencers, former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) joked that Bitcoin might have been invented by an artificial intelligence (AI) from the future. "It might be software coming back through time… It's hard to imagine now, but it could be possible," CZ said, calling it one of the "stranger" theories about Bitcoin’s origins.
Despite the playful speculation, CZ clarified that he does not know who created Bitcoin. "I do not know who he is. I’ve never interacted with them. I know people who did in the early days... but I don't know who he is," he added. CZ also pointed out that maintaining anonymity would be extremely difficult if Bitcoin’s creation involved a group, emphasizing that a single creator could better conceal their identity.
The true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, remains one of crypto’s greatest mysteries. Over the years, several figures have been proposed, including cypherpunk Hal Finney, computer scientist Nick Szabo, privacy advocate Len Sassaman, and Blockstream CEO Adam Back.
Last year, an HBO documentary controversially suggested Canadian Bitcoin developer Peter Todd as Satoshi, though the claim was largely dismissed by the cryptocurrency community.
Speculation around Bitcoin's creator continues to fuel debate, but as CZ hinted, perhaps the real answer is even stranger than anyone expects.
