With the rising popularity of cryptos such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, an increasing number of companies are now looking for ways to incorporate crypto into their businesses. Major U.S. retailer Walmart appears to be joining the trend based on its recent job listing seeking an experienced crypto expert to join its team.
In a job listing posted on its website, Walmart is looking for a Digital Currency and Cryptocurrency Product Lead. The job description said that the person hired for the post will be responsible for developing the company’s digital currency strategy and product roadmap.
Walmart is looking for an expert in crypto and blockchain-related technologies who will drive the retailer’s “vision for the product and capabilities roadmap.” The crypto product lead will also be responsible for identifying the latest customer and technology trends as well as the necessary investments to monetize those trends.
With the rising popularity of cryptocurrencies, the number of crypto-related job postings has risen as well. A report from Indeed Hiring Lab revealed that there has been a 118 percent rise for cryptocurrency jobs on Indeed since last year, according to CNBC.
Walmart’s job post requires a candidate that has at least 10 years of experience in product or program management as well as in technology commercialization. The company also prefers someone with an entrepreneurial mindset and one who possesses " significant functional knowledge of the cryptocurrency ecosystem and players involved.”
Walmart is joining a growing number of Fortune 500 companies that have warmed up to cryptocurrencies. For instance, Amazon earlier posted a job listing for a similar role as it seeks a “digital currency and blockchain product lead” for its payment team.
“We’re inspired by the innovation happening in the cryptocurrency space and are exploring what this could look like on Amazon,” an Amazon spokesperson said. “We believe the future will be built on new technologies that enable modern, fast, and inexpensive payments, and hope to bring that future to Amazon customers as soon as possible.”
