Huobi has become the newest member of the Blockchain Turkey Platform (BCTR) to collaborate with local entities on blockchain initiatives, Cointelegraph reported.

Founded in 2018, the Blockchain Turkey Platform is a non-profit organization that aims to foster the country's blockchain ecosystem. On Jan. 15, Huobi announced that it is now a “Platinum” member and the first global exchange to join BCTR.

“We support BCTRs vision to secure Turkey's regional leadership in a decentralized system,” Huobi Turkey General Manager Alphan Gogus said.

Gogus said that they believed in the significance of keeping the blockchain-driven development together. He also admitted that they were looking forward to cooperating with BCTR through their different channels including Huobi University, Huobi Research and Huobi Capital.

“Huobi supports the growth of crypto and blockchain ecosystem globally. Turkey has the potential to become a pioneer in blockchain technology, both regionally and globally. By joining The Blockchain Turkey Platform, which drives local efforts in a cross-industry approach, we aim to exchange our global expertise and knowledge with key local players to boost the blockchain ecosystem,” Gogus added.

BCTR’s mission is to establish an ecosystem network through local and international collaboration with public sector bodies, universities, science, industry, and technology academies. Among their other platinum members are BtcTurk, AKBANK, BTS Partners, Garanti, Turkish Airlines, TURKCELL and more. They also have gold members which include IBM, MasterCard, and GSK to name a few.

In related news, the Capital Markets Board of Turkey (CMBI), the financial regulatory and supervisory agency of the country, has already started working on a regulatory framework for the nation’s cryptocurrency sector. This comes after reports that more and more Turkish people are joining the crypto space. Around 1 million people in the country have reportedly become crypto investors.

The Turkish IT Ministry is also planning to establish the “National Blockchain Infrastructure” to integrate the distributed ledger technology (DLT) in public administration.
