Opera, a web browser for Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems, has added support for Bitcoin and Tron-based tokens to its crypto wallet.

In a blog post dated July 10, Opera said that the beta version of the Opera browser for Android now allows sending and receiving Bitcoin (BTC), TRX, and TRC10 tokens. Previously, the wallet only supported Ethereum and ERC-tokens.

The company introduced the Crypto Wallet to the Opera browser for Android in December 2018, followed by the desktop version of its browser with a built-in cryptocurrency wallet in April 2019. Last month, it launched the iOS version of its blockchain-ready Opera Touch browser.

Alongside the support for bitcoin and Tron, Opera also announced that the beta version of its browser for Android now allows webpages to make transactions with Bitcoin.

“We are including an experimental integration of Web 3, which makes it possible for websites to request and receive addresses and for users to make transactions with Bitcoin. Opera is bringing Bitcoin to Web 3, allowing you to use this cryptocurrency for transactions on the Web,” it said.

Web 3 is an umbrella term for a set of emerging technologies (cryptos, blockchain, distributed systems) which will extend the capabilities of the web.

The announcement comes on the heels of the recent partnership between Opera and public blockchain project Ontology Network in decentralized finance (DeFi) and decentralized applications (dApps) sectors.
