More than $7.2 billion worth of cross-chain and wrapped digital assets have migrated from LayerZero to Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) since May, with Mantle becoming the latest blockchain project to adopt Chainlink’s cross-chain infrastructure.
Mantle announced it is moving its Super Portal, developed alongside Bybit, from LayerZero’s Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard to Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Token (CCT) standard. The migration highlights the growing competition between cross-chain interoperability solutions as blockchain ecosystems increasingly rely on secure asset transfers across multiple networks.
Both LayerZero and Chainlink CCIP enable users to move tokens between blockchains, a critical function as decentralized finance (DeFi) and tokenized assets expand across Ethereum, Solana, and other networks. However, cross-chain bridges have become one of the crypto industry’s biggest security concerns, with vulnerabilities capable of putting hundreds of millions of dollars in digital assets at risk.
Mantle’s Super Portal currently facilitates MNT token transfers between Ethereum and Solana, with additional blockchain integrations planned. The migration includes MNT, the native token of the Mantle network, which secures more than $2.5 billion in total value locked (TVL). With Mantle’s move, the combined value of projects announcing migrations from LayerZero to Chainlink CCIP has exceeded $7.24 billion.
The migration trend accelerated after the $292 million Kelp bridge exploit earlier this year, prompting greater scrutiny of LayerZero-powered bridge configurations. Kelp subsequently revealed plans to migrate more than $1.5 billion in assets to Chainlink CCIP. Other projects that have made similar transitions include Solv Protocol with $700 million in tokenized bitcoin, Lombard with more than $1 billion, Re with $475 million, Kraken with $330 million in wrapped assets, Virtuals Protocol with $700 million, and Yuzu Money with $54.5 million.
Mantle said its Super Portal will be temporarily suspended during the migration period from July 9 to July 15. Existing MNT tokens on Ethereum and Solana, along with MNT activity on Byreal and Bybit, will continue operating normally.
Emily Bao, a key advisor at Mantle, said reliable cross-chain infrastructure is becoming increasingly important as tokenized financial assets scale across blockchain networks. Under the new setup, Chainlink CCIP’s decentralized oracle network will secure MNT transfers, while the CCT standard will give Mantle direct control over token pools and transfer settings as it expands into additional blockchain ecosystems and tokenized asset markets.
