Ctrl Wallet has confirmed it will permanently shut down on August 3, 2026, ending support for transfers, token swaps, and all in-app activity. The crypto wallet provider announced the decision on July 7 and removed the application from major app stores the same day, marking the end of its services.

Users who already have the app installed can continue using its full functionality until August 2. During this period, they can send and receive cryptocurrencies, swap supported tokens, and export their recovery phrase without restrictions.

Starting August 3, the wallet will only allow users to export their recovery phrase. Ctrl has urged customers to back up their 12-word or 24-word recovery phrase as soon as possible, warning that it cannot guarantee how long the application will remain accessible on users' devices after the shutdown.

The company also advised customers to transfer their crypto holdings to another self-custody wallet or a cryptocurrency exchange before the deadline to avoid potential access issues.

Ctrl did not disclose the reason behind its closure. However, the shutdown follows a security incident reported in June that impacted a limited number of Cardano (ADA) wallets using the platform. While the company described the issue as affecting only a small group of users, it has not linked the breach directly to its decision to cease operations.

The closure reflects a broader trend of crypto platforms exiting the market. According to blockchain data provider RootData, at least 79 cryptocurrency projects have shut down, entered bankruptcy, or become inactive during 2026. The list includes crypto wallets, decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, NFT platforms, and other blockchain-based services, highlighting continued challenges across the digital asset industry.

With the shutdown date approaching, Ctrl Wallet users are encouraged to secure their recovery phrase and migrate their funds promptly, as future access to the app cannot be guaranteed once services officially end.
