AT&T becomes the first major US mobile carrier to accept cryptocurrency as a bill payment option.

We’re always looking for ways to improve and expand our services,” Kevin McDorman, vice president, AT&T Communications Finance Business Operations, stated in its press release.

Customers can now make online bill payments to the telecom giant via BitPay, a cryptocurrency payment processor. They need to log on to their online accounts or the myAT&T app to select BitPay.

We have customers who use cryptocurrency, and we are happy we can offer them a way to pay their bills with the method they prefer,” McDorman said.

Founded in 2011, BitPay is a bitcoin service provider that offers Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash payment processing services for merchants. The Georgia-based company is used by more than 20,000 business to convert cryptocurrencies to fiat.

Last month, BitPay has also partnered with Refundo, a tax-related financial products and services provider. The collaboration has allowed US taxpayers to get their tax refunds back in bitcoin.

Their collaboration aims to provide a transparent and seamless experience during tax season, with Refundo emphasizing speed, low transaction fees, and serving the underbanked.

Refundo’s integration joins existing BitPya Payouts used in the global marketplace, affiliate programs, and payroll, highlighting the high-speed and low cost of Payouts in Bitcoin,” Rolf Haag, BitPay’s Head of Business Solutions said.
