Freight Technologies Invests $20M in Trump Token to Diversify Crypto Treasury

Freight Technologies (NASDAQ: FRGT), a U.S.-Mexico logistics tech firm with a $4.8 million market cap, has committed to purchasing up to $20 million in the Official Trump Token (TRUMP) as part of its new crypto treasury strategy. The company secured funding through a convertible note with an institutional investor, with an initial $1 million already committed exclusively for TRUMP token purchases.

This makes Freight one of the first publicly traded companies to invest directly in TRUMP, a memecoin linked to President Donald Trump. CEO Javier Selgas stated the move supports both treasury diversification and advocacy for "fair and balanced" U.S.-Mexico trade relations amid renewed focus on Trump’s trade policies.

The announcement follows Freight’s $8 million investment in FET, an AI-linked token used in its logistics platform. This crypto strategy mirrors similar moves by companies like MicroStrategy, Semler Scientific, and Japan's Metaplanet, which have made significant crypto acquisitions to strengthen balance sheets and hedge against fiat volatility.

However, Freight’s investment in a politically charged token has sparked controversy. Democratic lawmakers criticized Trump’s invitation to TRUMP token holders for a private dinner, calling it potential "access selling." Senator Jon Ossoff cited it as a possible conflict of interest, suggesting ethical scrutiny if political figures promote tokens offering direct access.

Despite concerns, Freight’s stock surged 111% after the announcement but dropped 21.6% in after-hours trading. The company’s logistics solutions focus on optimizing cross-border freight, and its pivot to digital assets aims to stabilize its declining share price and amplify its political relevance in the U.S.-Mexico trade landscape.

TRUMP tokens are currently priced at $12.70, marking a 42% increase over the past 30 days.
