Global crypto exchange OKX is entering the U.S. market, establishing a new regional headquarters in San Jose, California. The Seychelles-based platform will now offer its trading services and OKX Wallet to U.S. crypto traders, signaling a strategic expansion aligned with the evolving regulatory landscape.

Newly appointed CEO Roshan Robert, formerly with CLST and a founding member of Hidden Road (acquired by Ripple for $1.25 billion), emphasized OKX’s focus on “responsible growth.” In a statement, Robert highlighted the company's commitment to regulatory compliance, detailing its implementation of a robust global compliance framework. This includes strict Know-Your-Customer (KYC) procedures, advanced fraud detection, anti-money laundering (AML) systems, geo-blocking, and real-time market surveillance.

The expansion comes just two months after an OKX subsidiary paid over $500 million in penalties to the U.S. Department of Justice for operating without a money transmission license. Despite official policies prohibiting access by U.S. users, the DOJ alleged that OKX actively pursued American customers.

OKX’s move follows a broader trend of crypto firms re-entering or expanding in the U.S. amid a more favorable regulatory environment under President Donald Trump’s administration. Earlier this month, CoinList announced its return to the U.S. after a five-year absence, and reports suggest Binance may also be exploring a comeback.

Existing users of OKCoin, OKX’s U.S.-accessible sister platform, will be transitioned to the new OKX interface. The company promises enhanced features such as deeper liquidity, lower fees, and advanced trading tools, aiming to attract both retail and institutional investors in the American market.
