Michael Saylor Hints at New Bitcoin Purchase as Strategy Holds $44.6B in BTC

Bitcoin advocate Michael Saylor has hinted at another major BTC acquisition by Strategy (MSTR), the company he co-founded, despite forecasting a net loss in Q1 due to unrealized losses on its massive Bitcoin holdings. On Sunday, Saylor shared the firm’s BTC holdings tracker on X, often a precursor to a purchase announcement, adding the phrase “no tariffs on orange dots.” The comment likely references the immunity of Bitcoin from recent U.S.-China tariff tensions initiated by Donald Trump.

Strategy has aggressively expanded its BTC portfolio in 2024, adding 80,785 BTC since January. The company raised $7.69 billion in Q1, primarily through common stock sales, and allocated most of it toward purchasing Bitcoin. As of now, Strategy holds a total of 528,185 BTC—acquired for approximately $35.63 billion—making up around 2.515% of Bitcoin’s total supply. Its crypto holdings are currently valued at $44.59 billion.

The firm briefly paused its buying activity in the week ending April 6 but appears poised to resume. Saylor’s latest social media activity suggests a continuation of Strategy’s long-standing Bitcoin accumulation strategy, reinforcing its position as the largest corporate holder of BTC.

This aggressive accumulation comes amid volatile market conditions and increasing institutional interest in Bitcoin. With BTC trading above Strategy’s average purchase price of $67,458, market watchers anticipate how the firm’s continued buying could impact Bitcoin’s price action and broader sentiment.

Saylor’s strategy of converting cash reserves into Bitcoin has positioned Strategy as a bellwether for corporate BTC adoption, drawing both investor interest and scrutiny.
