Virgin Voyages has become the first cruise line to accept Bitcoin, unveiling its 2025 Annual Pass. The pass, priced at $120,000, offers unlimited cruising for a year and exclusive amenities, targeting crypto investors and global travelers.

Virgin Voyages Introduces Bitcoin Payments with Annual Pass for 2025

Along with becoming the "first cruise product to accept cryptocurrency," Virgin Voyages announced the debut of its new "Annual Pass" package starting in 2025.

An article on the company's site states that they will take Bitcoin for the new service, with a typical upfront cost of $120,000 plus taxes per cruise. There has been no word on when or if Virgin Voyages will think about adding stablecoins or alternative cryptocurrencies to its list of available options.

A limited number of annual passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis and provide unlimited cruises for a whole year. Following the success of its "Season Pass" program—primarily targeted at remote workers—the corporation announced that the service was conceived.

Bitcoin Integration Signals a Shift in Luxury Travel

The founder of Virgin Group, Richard Branson, has stated:

“What started as a sought-after ‘work from sea’ concept with our Season Pass has evolved into something even more special. Now, Sailors can jump aboard any of our ships, across an endless variety of exciting destinations for an entire year. We’re offering unlimited opportunities for adventure in a way that has never been done in cruising before.”

Bitcoin, the most widely used cryptocurrency in terms of transaction volume, might be a game-changer for the tourism sector if integrated into the Virgin ecosystem.

While many travel companies have investigated the possibility of using blockchain and cryptocurrency for product and service transactions, the implementation by Virgin Group through its cruise line venture may attract crypto whales, or individuals with digital asset holdings sufficient to support a six-figure single-push expenditure, Cointelegraph shares.

Annual Pass Offers Unique Perks for Crypto Enthusiasts

An annual pass from Virgin gives you access to a "Sea Terrace cabin" with a private balcony, laundry service, internet, and a $100 bar tab per voyage. It's not quite the yacht and Lamborghini lifestyle that some popular crypto influencers promote, but it does come with double-occupancy.

Getting cozy with the crypto community's CEOs, entrepreneurs, and independently affluent could be a sign of things to come when it comes to collaboration between different industries.
