EOS blockchain parent firm Block.one is opening another site in Washington, D.C. metropolitan region, making the new location its fourth global site.
Block.one LLC, the publisher of blockchain software EOSIO, announced that the new office will serve as the new headquarters for its United States operations arm in Arlington, Virginia.
The office is set to employ 170 high-skilled workers over a span of 3 years, specifically from the fields of engineering and IT, cybersecurity, product development, and marketing.
“Its proximity to the nation’s capital positions us close to the policy innovation around digital assets and distributed ledger technology in the U.S. This expansion opens up important new avenues of talent expansions for us at a time when there is rapidly increasing demand for blockchain-based technologies,” Block.one CEO Brendan Blumer said.
The Peter Thiel-backed firm has already set its presence in Virginia with an 80-employee facility in Blacksburg, which is about 250 miles away.
Virginia Governor Ralph Northam said that Block.one would invest $10 million into the Arlington area to help boost the state’s reputation in the fintech sector.
The state head further said that the firm is qualified to receive a Major Business Facility Job Tax Credit for creating new, full-time jobs and was granted $600,000 from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund to assist Arlington County through the project.
In June, Block.one introduced a new blockchain-based social media platform, dubbed as Voice, which aims to reward and return control to social media users. It will encourage content creation, sharing, discovery, and promotion by real users, and the value of good content will get circulated right back into sustaining the community.
