Justin Sun, the founder of blockchain platform TRON and CEO of peer-to-peer file sharing protocol BitTorrent, revealed in a tweet that he will get a chance to eat private lunch with Warren Buffett after winning this year’s annual eBay charity auction.
The Chinese entrepreneur placed a record-high bid of $4.57 million, which will benefit GLIDE Foundation’s 50-year quest to help people in San Francisco overcome barriers such as addiction, homelessness, hunger, and social isolation.

“I’m excited to talk to Warren Buffett about the promise of blockchain and get valuable tips and insights from him about entrepreneurship and making bold bets on the future,” Sun said.
In an open letter published in a Medium post, Sun revealed that he is a long-term believer of Buffett and his long-term value investing strategy. However, he pointed out that Buffett has publicly said that he does not see Bitcoin’s unique value, but sees potential in the underlying technology, blockchain.
“I … firmly believe that with the right communication and understanding, Buffett will change his overall stance on cryptocurrency and blockchain, allowing this new investment strategy to become integrated into his overall portfolio,” Sun wrote.
“It is very common in investment circles that people will change their minds. Investment opportunities are best when lots of people are underestimating the technology,” Sun told the South China Morning Post.
As part of the auction, the winning bidder can bring up to seven friends to join the lunch at Smith & Wollensky’s steakhouse in Manhattan. Sun said his list will include crypto-industry leaders to meet the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway.
Last month, TRON secured second place in the latest update of China’s cryptocurrency ranking. The government-sponsored index claims to appraise 35 public blockchains based on technology, application, and innovation.
