MicroStrategy co-founder Michael Saylor believes the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) is on track to become BlackRock’s most profitable ETF. The prediction follows Bloomberg senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas’ report that IBIT is already the third-highest revenue-generating ETF in BlackRock’s lineup, pulling in $191 million—outpacing over 1,195 other funds from the asset management giant.

Launched in 2024, IBIT has rapidly gained traction among institutional and retail investors, with total net assets now standing at an impressive $76.31 billion, according to SoSoValue. This dwarfs Fidelity’s competing Bitcoin ETF, which holds $22.05 billion in assets. IBIT has only seen outflows once—in February 2025—highlighting strong and consistent investor demand.

BlackRock earns 0.25% annually from IBIT’s assets under management (AUM), generating revenue from custody, compliance, marketing, and portfolio management, though not from trading volume. Despite being relatively new, IBIT’s revenue is now approaching the top performers in BlackRock’s portfolio.

The iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV), BlackRock’s flagship index fund, holds $627 billion in AUM but only generates $188 million in revenue due to its ultra-low 0.03% fee. Meanwhile, the iShares Russell 1000 Growth ETF (IWF) currently leads with $211 million in revenue at a 0.19% fee.

Given its growth rate, Saylor’s projection that IBIT could soon become BlackRock’s top revenue generator seems increasingly likely. As Bitcoin adoption accelerates, ETFs like IBIT are emerging as major financial vehicles, bridging traditional finance with digital assets.

This momentum reflects a broader shift toward crypto-based investment products and underscores BlackRock’s growing stake in the digital asset space.
