Bitcoin is trading around $74,987 after gaining nearly 10% this month, but momentum is slowing as the price meets resistance near the $75,000 level. The pause comes even as U.S. equities push to record highs, highlighting a disconnect between the two markets.

On-chain data suggests long-term holders are cashing out into the rally. A key metric called the Realized Profit/Loss Ratio tracks the dollar value of gains or losses recorded when coins move on the blockchain. It does this by comparing a coin's current price to what it was worth the last time it changed hands. Readings above 1 signal net profit-taking, and the 30-day exponential moving average currently sits at 1.16, confirming that selling into strength is underway. Analysts say a sustained breakout above $78,100 will require the market to fully absorb this overhead supply.

The trend was especially visible on Tuesday, when Bitcoin briefly approached $76,000 before retreating. CryptoQuant reported roughly $1.14 billion in single-day realized profits during the move, one of the largest figures recorded this year. While the metric has its limitations, since coins moving on-chain aren't always being sold, the signal aligns with other data points pointing to caution.

Spot demand also remains uneven. Cumulative volume delta data from Glassnode shows aggressive buying concentrated on Binance, while activity on Coinbase and other major platforms stays relatively muted. Derivatives markets reflect a similar tone, with Deribit options traders favoring puts across all timeframes, signaling lingering fears of a pullback.

Funding rates are slightly negative, suggesting traders are not yet positioned aggressively to the upside. Taken together, the data paints a picture of a market that is consolidating rather than overheating, with buyers steadily absorbing supply but not yet in a position to drive the next significant leg higher.
