A recent buzz on Twitter, sparked by an unexpected surge in Safe deployments on the Optimism Network, has finally been traced back to Worldcoin. Tiago Sada, the product head for Tools for Humanity, the team behind Worldcoin, revealed the source of this phenomenon. The crypto community had been perplexed by the surge, leading to a variety of speculations, ranging from a potential Sybil attack to a clever strategy to profit from misdirected coin transfers.

A "Safe," formerly known as Gnosis Safe, is a multisignature smart contract wallet used by development groups to require multiple approvals before executing any transaction or app upgrade from a shared fund pool. It is a popular tool among emerging consumer wallets that implement account abstraction, providing gas-free transactions, for example.

Worldcoin, known for extensively utilizing Safes due to their gas-free transaction feature, recently made a significant move. The team announced that they were shifting their application from Polygon to Optimism, creating a buzz within the online community.

The news also caught the attention of Luigi.eth, a GnosisDAO contributor, who clarified that the Gnosis team had been made aware of the unusual transactions, but they appeared to be non-malicious. Furthermore, Parsec Finance founder Will Sheehan hinted at having insights into the situation, further fueling speculation.

Among Sheehan's followers, opinions were divided. Some suggested that the deployments might indicate a Sybil attack on the network, while others believed it could be an ingenious scheme to farm addresses that might accidentally receive funds in the future. An intriguing suggestion linked the deployments to "eyeball coin," possibly referring to Worldcoin, given their use of an iris-scanning device called "the Orb" for identity verification.

Ultimately, the increased Safe deployments can be attributed to Worldcoin's use of Safes and their recent application migration, putting the ongoing speculation to rest and redirecting the community's attention to the potential benefits and implications of these actions.
