British-American computer programmer and businessman John McAfee predicted that bitcoin will reach $1 million at the end of the year, but he seemed to lost interest in the cryptocurrency. In fact, just recently, he called it “worthless.”

One of McAfee’s followers wrote that he believed people only followed the McAfee Antivirus founder due to bitcoin. McAfee responded with “I have no clue” and added, “Bitcoin is worthless.”

McAfee’s statement has triggered reactions from the netizens. Many chose to believe in his previous statements that bitcoin's value will reach $1 million by the end of the year. One even said that bitcoin is not worthless. In fact, it is the only cryptocurrency that has value.

“Haha @officialmcafee was totally wrong like he always is. Only thing he was right about is that yes #bitcoin will eventually go to $1,000,000,” @Bizniz203 added.

Although McAfee called bitcoin worthless, he promoted other cryptocurrencies. In another tweet, he wrote that Monero is being used by tens of thousands of those who no longer use banks, credit cards or paper currency including him. He added that there is nothing one can’t buy through Dai, Monero or Ethereum.

Back in November 2017, McAfee made a bold prediction about bitcoin. He even made a surprising dare.

“When I predicted Bitcoin at $500,000 by the end of 2020, it used a model that predicted $5,000 at the end of 2017. BTC has accelerated much faster than my model assumptions. I now predict Bircoin [sic] at $1 million by the end of 2020. I will still eat my dick if wrong,” McAfee wrote.

Meanwhile, Berkshire Hathaway CEO and Chairman Warren Buffett also said earlier that “cryptocurrencies basically have no value and they don’t produce anything.” He insisted that it has zero value and he doesn’t have any cryptocurrency and has no intention to have one.
