Google to allow regulated crypto exchanges to advertise from October

Wed, 26 Sep 2018, 09:11 am UTC

Search engine giant Google has announced that it will start allowing regulated cryptocurrency exchanges to advertise in the U.S. and Japan, starting next month.

The company had previously banned cryptocurrency and initial coin offering (ICO) advertisements as it updated its Financial Services Policy in June.

In a new update to Financial products and services policy, Google said:

“The Google Ads policy on Financial products and services will be updated in October 2018 to allow regulated cryptocurrency exchanges to advertise in the United States and Japan.

“Advertisers will need to be certified with Google for the specific country in which their ads will serve. Advertisers will be able to apply for certification once the policy launches in October.
This policy will apply globally to all accounts that advertise these financial products.”

In July, Google added Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and Litecoin (LTC) to its online currency exchange converter.

Earlier this year, Facebook also announced a new policy to prohibit promotional activities on ICOs and cryptocurrency. However, the social networking giant revised its policy within months – allowing cryptocurrency ads on its platform, while the ban on ICO advertisements still stands.
