Coinbase's CEO, Brian Armstrong, recently expressed concerns over the usability of the company's application. He voiced his concerns following the activities during the "Onchain Summer" event, which kicked off on August 9th and will continue until the end of the month. This event, a celebration of product introductions, brand promotions, and presentations of non-fungible tokens on their Base layer-2 network, uncovered several weaknesses in the app's user interface, especially concerning non-fungible tokens, decentralized apps, and layer 2 networks.
Armstrong's acknowledgment of these challenges came after hosting an interactive session on social media platform X. He sought users' feedback on how to improve the app and promised quick updates to address the primary concerns within the next fortnight.
Interestingly, the top feedback response came from a developer named Racer from Friendtech. Racer emphasized the need for a more straightforward credit card onboarding process for Coinbase, which wouldn't necessitate users to set up a separate account. Another significant point raised was an ongoing glitch causing difficulties when syncing Coinbase's mobile wallet with the Google Chrome browser. Armstrong recognized this issue, acknowledging that its resolution has been more challenging than initially anticipated.
The subject of user experience (UX) is not new to the world of cryptocurrencies. An anonymous Web3 UI/UX designer, known as 0xDesigner, shared with Cointelegraph the complexities associated with designing blockchain-based apps. The intrinsic owner-focused and irreversible characteristics of these applications make them especially challenging. However, Kirthana Devaser, a content manager at XGo, remains optimistic. She believes that emphasizing an efficient UI and downplaying the complexities of blockchain in day-to-day user interactions can potentially usher in a broader acceptance of this technology.
