Binance has commissioned an independent cybersecurity review and plans to expand security programs after its preliminary investigation found attackers accessed wallet infrastructure in an incident involving about $6.34 billion in digital assets.

The exchange plans to increase investment in AI threat detection, endpoint protection, developer-environment security and systems for monitoring unusual behavior. It is also preparing a security research fund and plans to work with AI companies, industry participants and cybersecurity firms on projects focused on AI risks in blockchain systems.

Binance’s preliminary review found that attackers gained unauthorized access to its internal wallet-signing service and used it to initiate transactions outside the normal withdrawal process. The incident occurred Thursday, Oct. 29.

Binance also disclosed that its security team blocked 57 cyber threats suspected of ties to North Korea during 2026. The methods included fake recruiting interviews, malicious developer tools, altered software packages, browser extensions and fake video-conferencing apps.
