MetaMask Requires Stellar Trustlines Before Non-Native Token Bridges

Bridged assets can be lost if the receiving trustline is missing. A new Stellar address needs at least one Stellar Lumens (XLM).

MetaMask warns users about the risk and prompts them before they confirm a bridge. A trustline is an on-chain permission to receive a specific Stellar asset.

A new Stellar address needs an initial deposit of at least one Stellar Lumens (XLM). Each trustline reserves another 0.5 XLM, while network fees are paid from the account’s spendable XLM balance.

For swaps between Stellar assets, MetaMask creates a needed trustline as part of the swap. A regular Stellar token send to an address without the required trustline fails, and the sender’s funds are not deducted.
