Uniswap launched its VolatilePair Hook on Ethereum mainnet for ETH/USDC, introducing fees that change with price movements and trade direction to help reduce losses for liquidity providers.

The hook recalculates its dynamic fee on each trade, replacing a fixed rate. When Ether (ETH) rises, buyers pay higher fees and sellers pay lower fees. When ETH falls, those adjustments reverse.

After a large price fluctuation, trades that drive the price back toward its prior level face a temporary additional fee. The design aims to reduce losses liquidity providers can incur as prices move.

Uniswap previously published a StablePair Hook deep dive as USDG liquidity expanded on Arbitrum.
