Microsoft Says X Account Was Secured After Clippy Coin Promotion
The account’s profile image changed to Clippy, and it interacted with posts promoting a meme coin themed around the former Office assistant.

Microsoft secured its official X account after unauthorized access was used to promote a meme coin themed around Clippy, the former Office assistant, and said it is investigating the incident.
During the access, the account followed and reposted content from an account promoting the token. Its profile image was also changed to show Clippy. Microsoft said the unauthorized posts had been removed.
A post from the account that was later deleted said Microsoft had not authorized the use of its intellectual property to promote a token. It also said the token was unrelated to Microsoft stock and did not give holders an ownership stake in the company.
The account’s unauthorized activity and subsequent recovery were confirmed by Microsoft. The company has not provided further details about how the access occurred.
