Zcash Boosts Private Transactions With Zakura Common

Zcash developers have introduced a new cryptographic software stack designed to dramatically speed up private transactions, potentially strengthening the privacy blockchain’s push toward everyday payments and large-scale adoption.

The software, known as Zakura Common, was developed by the team behind Zakura, a Zcash node launched in July 2026. According to its developers, the technology can cut the time required for a wallet to construct a private Zcash transaction from more than three seconds to under 200 milliseconds in certain cases.

Zcash private, or shielded, transactions conceal the sender, recipient and transferred amount. However, wallets must perform intensive cryptographic calculations to prove that these hidden transactions comply with network rules. That process can create noticeable delays even before a transaction reaches the blockchain.

Zakura Common aims to remove much of this bottleneck. The team says transaction proving is now more than 14 times faster on mobile devices and over five times faster on desktop computers. Hashing performance has improved by more than 21 times, while verification of private transactions by Zcash nodes is reportedly four to eight times faster.

Zcash co-founder Sean Bowe said both shielded wallets using Zakura Common and full nodes such as Zakura can benefit from the performance improvements.

Importantly, adopting the technology does not require a Zcash network upgrade. Wallet developers can integrate the open-source libraries into existing applications. Zakura has already adopted the stack in version 1.3.0, while Vizor Wallet is among the first wallets to implement it.

The release forms part of a broader Zcash scaling strategy. Zakura developers previously outlined a long-term goal of processing more than 50,000 private transactions per second, bringing Zcash closer to the capacity associated with major payment networks.

The new libraries are also expected to improve wallet synchronization, accelerate transaction verification and reduce orphaned blocks. Zakura says its software can already support the proposed 25-second block times planned for Zcash’s upcoming NU7 upgrade.

Project Tachyon, another Zcash scaling initiative, has also migrated to the new cryptographic stack.

Following the announcement, ZEC price climbed roughly 5% to around $839 before retreating alongside a broader cryptocurrency market pullback on Monday.
