Ripple CEO Says RLUSD Competes With Stablecoins, Not XRP
Brad Garlinghouse said he wants Ripple USD’s use cases to run on the XRP Ledger. His remarks came in response to a discussion about XRP’s potential uses.

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse said Ripple USD (RLUSD) competes with other stablecoins, not XRP, and wants its use cases on the XRP Ledger in a Nov. 3 post on X.
Garlinghouse wrote, “RLUSD isn’t competing with XRP. It’s competing with other stablecoins.” He added that he wants “those use cases running on the XRPL.”
Garlinghouse was replying to crypto commentator WrathofKahneman, who had argued that more liquidity on the XRP Ledger could make XRP easier to use over time. The commentator framed the question as whether XRP would become a specialized institutional asset with gated liquidity or achieve widespread everyday use.
The exchange follows Garlinghouse’s earlier discussion of XRP’s role in customer payments. He said the token may not fit every use case and that Ripple could use fiat or RLUSD for some transactions.
