XRP Yield Products Use Trading Fees, DeFi Cover and Other Strategies

The XRP Ledger pays no native staking rewards. Firelight emissions for FXRP stakers are funded by fees from covered-vault operators.

XRP does not earn staking rewards on the XRP Ledger (XRPL). Validators receive no XRP rewards, and transaction fees are destroyed, so returns from XRP products come through other mechanisms.

One option is an automated market maker (AMM) on XRPL. Liquidity providers receive tokens representing their share of a pool’s assets and fees. AMM trading fees can range from 0% to 1%, in increments of 0.001%. Providers can lose value if the assets’ prices move relative to each other.

Firelight uses a different model on Flare. The service went live Oct. 6, and fees paid by covered-vault operators fund protocol emissions for people who stake FXRP. Those fees fund the emissions; stakers do not receive the operators’ fees directly. Staked capital backs decentralized finance (DeFi) cover and is subject to slashing.

FXRP is Flare’s representation of XRP. It is minted through FAssets and can be redeemed for XRP through the protocol. Firelight uses 30-day coverage periods, and exits take longer than they did in Phase 1.

A Doppler XRP vault uses another approach, relying on institutional custody providers and market-neutral strategies such as asset-neutral arbitrage and spot-perpetual basis trading. These products have different sources of returns and risks: AMM providers collect trading fees, Firelight emissions are funded by cover fees, and Doppler uses trading strategies. None of these methods adds staking rewards to the XRP Ledger itself.
