Crypto traders saw $959.14 million in leveraged positions forcibly closed in the 24-hour window ending at 1:31 a.m. ET (05:31 UTC) Oct. 15, as long positions accounted for most of the market’s forced unwinds.

Long positions represented 91.7% of the total, and 179,532 traders were affected. Ether (ETH) liquidations totaled $288.60 million, compared with $198.90 million for Bitcoin (BTC).

The largest single closure was a $12.03 million long position in the BTC-USDT pair on Binance, priced at $80,208.96. Bitcoin had briefly fallen to $79,950 at 9:54 a.m. ET (13:54 UTC), then rose above $81,000 by 10:30 a.m. ET (14:30 UTC) and reached $82,200 by 11:19 a.m. ET (15:19 UTC).

A liquidation occurs when an exchange closes a leveraged position after the trader’s margin drops below its required level. The dollar total measures the value of positions closed, not necessarily traders’ cash losses.

Bitcoin’s rebound came hours after the liquidation snapshot. A rolling 24-hour tally can shift as the measurement window moves.
