Filecoin (FIL) climbed 14% to $1.27, a five-month high, as the final phase of six-year vesting schedules for Protocol Labs and the Filecoin Foundation approaches.

FIL was trading near $1.24 after the move, while 24-hour trading volume reached $269 million, up 150%. The vesting schedules are expected to conclude around Oct. 15, six years after Filecoin mainnet launched.

Filecoin’s token-economics documentation assigns 300 million FIL to Protocol Labs and 100 million FIL to the Filecoin Foundation, with both allocations vesting linearly over six years from mainnet launch. The schedules cover those allocations and are separate from mining rewards, investor vesting and other supply mechanisms.

One estimate puts annual new FIL issuance at about 22 million tokens after the schedules end, down from roughly 89 million, a 75% reduction. Mining-related issuance will continue after the foundation and Protocol Labs vesting periods conclude.

The next scheduled unlock event is set for 8 p.m. ET Oct. 15 (00:00 UTC Oct. 16), marking the immediate timing investors are watching as the six-year period closes.
