The cryptocurrency market saw $608.34 million in leveraged-position liquidations over a 24-hour period as long traders faced widespread forced closures across major digital assets.

Liquidations affected 106,952 traders, with long positions making up most of the forced closures. A separate 24-hour measurement recorded $555.6 million in liquidations through 11:20 p.m. ET Oct. 6 (03:20 UTC Oct. 7), including $487.2 million in long positions.

Ether (ETH) traders recorded $209.89 million in liquidations, the largest amount among the assets listed. Bitcoin (BTC) liquidations totaled $138.88 million.

An Oct. 6 market snapshot put Bitcoin at $83,665.08, Ether at $2,697.37 and Solana (SOL) at $120.79.

Liquidations occur when exchanges automatically close leveraged positions after traders no longer have enough margin to support them. Forced selling from long positions can intensify declines during a sharp market move.
