Bitcoin Holders Resist Selling as BTC Surges 47%

Bitcoin holders are showing little urgency to take profits despite BTC’s dramatic 47% rally over the past 24 hours, according to on-chain data shared by cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex.

Bitcoin’s adjusted Spent Output Profit Ratio (aSOPR) is currently hovering near 1.01, suggesting investors are realizing only modest profits even after the sharp increase in the Bitcoin price.

The aSOPR metric tracks whether Bitcoin moved on-chain is being spent at a profit or loss. A reading above 1 indicates that coins are being sold or transferred at a profit on average, while a figure below 1 points to realized losses. At approximately 1.01, the latest reading remains only slightly above the breakeven level.

The muted profit-taking stands out compared with Bitcoin’s previous breakout in August, when Bitfinex said aSOPR climbed to around 1.04. This time, BTC has recorded a much stronger price advance without triggering a similar increase in realized profits.

“There is barely any selling to absorb,” Bitfinex said, highlighting the limited on-chain distribution accompanying Bitcoin’s latest rally.

The trend comes as Bitcoin extends its recovery from a steep summer downturn. BTC briefly dropped below $58,000 in early July before staging a powerful rebound. The cryptocurrency has now climbed above $86,000, reaching its highest level since January.

Bitcoin also recently achieved a significant technical milestone. BTC closed the week ending Sept. 20 at $81,159, above its 50-week moving average of $78,786. It was Bitcoin’s first weekly close above the closely watched technical indicator in 45 weeks.

Before the breakout, Bitcoin had failed to close above its 50-week moving average on a weekly basis since November 2025.

The combination of rising Bitcoin prices and limited profit-taking suggests long-term holders have so far remained reluctant to sell into the rally. Traders will now be watching whether selling pressure increases if BTC continues pushing toward higher price levels.
