Trump-Backed WLFI Stablecoin USD1 Sparks Speculation After Blockchain Activity Surge

Speculation is mounting in the crypto world as World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a decentralized finance (DeFi) project backed by former U.S. President Donald Trump and his family, appears to be testing its long-anticipated stablecoin, USD1.

Blockchain sleuths spotted activity involving USD1 on both Ethereum and BNB Chain, with deployments occurring earlier this month. Etherscan and BscScan data reveal over 3.5 million tokens minted on each chain, indicating early-stage testing. Transactions involved high-profile entities like market maker Wintermute and crypto custodian BitGo, according to Arkham Intelligence.

Adding fuel to the buzz, Binance founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao shared a screenshot of USD1’s BscScan page with his 10 million followers, boosting visibility and prompting copycat tokens. WLFI quickly responded on X, warning users that USD1 is not yet available for trading and to remain cautious of potential scams.

WLFI, co-founded by Zachary Folkman and Chase Herro, has drawn attention since its inception due to its Trump affiliation. The protocol aims to build a blockchain-based financial ecosystem offering lending, borrowing, and stablecoin-powered transactions. While the team has long hinted at launching a native stablecoin, no official rollout date has been confirmed.

Stablecoins remain one of the fastest-growing sectors in crypto, viewed as a “killer app” due to their price stability and wide utility in trading, remittances, and daily payments. Regulatory interest has also surged, especially under the Trump-aligned administration, which has elevated stablecoins as central to preserving the U.S. dollar’s global dominance.
