Bastion CEO Nassim Eddequiouaq said large companies want more control over payment infrastructure as Sony Bank considers a U.S. dollar stablecoin business for Sony Group operations in North America.

Sony Bank announced a partnership with Bastion Platforms, Inc. on Dec. 1, 2025, to examine the business, potentially through a U.S. subsidiary. The initiative remains under consideration, and no launch date or final product has been announced.

Bastion said it was Sony Bank’s sole issuance provider for the initiative. It said it would handle issuance, reserve management and custody for a stablecoin backed by U.S. dollars.

The announcements did not specify the token’s name, blockchain or reserve structure. They also did not establish planned use cases or regulatory approval for a launch.

“Stablecoins don’t need to replace customer experiences to meaningfully improve payment operations,” Eddequiouaq said. Bastion works with enterprises on stablecoin settlement and liquidity management, including 24/7 on-chain settlement, he said.

“The evolution of our financial system demands the buy-in of major players like Sony Bank to pave the way for innovation and change,” Eddequiouaq said.

The available details point to enterprise interest in adapting payment infrastructure, but they do not show that companies broadly plan to replace Visa or Mastercard. The materials also do not quantify card-network costs, stablecoin fees or settlement times.

Bastion offers businesses and financial firms tools for launching and administering stablecoins. Its services include wallets, custody, reserve management and on- and off-ramps.

Bastion raised $14.6 million in a strategic financing round announced Sept. 24, 2025, taking its total funding above $40 million. Coinbase Ventures led the round, with participation from Sony Innovation Fund, a16z crypto, Samsung Next and Hashed.
