Crypto adoption continues to grow in the U.S. with more retailers starting to accept digital currencies as a payment option. Sheetz, a major Mid-Atlantic restaurant and convenience chain, is the latest to join the trend and will start accepting Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Dogecoin (DOGE), and other cryptos soon.

Sheetz announced that it has partnered with leading pure-digital payments network Flexa to enable it to accept digital currencies. With the partnership, customers will soon be able to for items bought inside the store or fill up their trucks, cars, and RVs using cryptocurrencies supported by Flexa such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Dogecoin (DOGE), and others.

The move is providing customers more flexibility when it comes to payment options. “We are constantly innovating and exploring new offerings to truly give our customers what they want, when they want it, 24/7/365 — that includes accepting many forms of payment,” Sheetz Payments Manager Linda Smith said. “We're very excited to be working with Flexa to roll out support for cryptocurrencies and other types of digital assets at our stores.”

Initially, Sheetz will accept cryptocurrency payments at select Sheetz Cafe Stores later this summer but the company plans to roll out the payment option later this year at Sheetz's fuel pumps. The chain operates 622 stores in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland. Customers will also be able to link their My Sheetz Rewardz loyalty account with Flexa-enabled apps.

Meanwhile, Flexa co-founder Trevor Filter said that while crypto has increasingly become popular as an investment, some merchants might have overlooked the advantages of using digital currencies as payment. “With interest in digital currencies reaching all-time highs, it's easy to lose sight of the fact that there are real, tangible benefits for the merchants who accept them—not only reduced fraud and cost savings but also a better and more mobile customer experience,” he said.

“Sheetz is one of the most forward-thinking brands in the business and understands their customer base better than anyone else,” Filter added. “We're absolutely elated that Flexa can help them become the first convenience and retail chain to accept digital currencies directly at the pump.”
