Chinese search engine giant Baidu last week announced that it has launched Baidu Blockchain Engine (BBE), Cointelegraph reported.
Baidu Cloud made the announcement in an online post on February 14. It said that by using the BBE platform, developers would be able to develop distributed applications (DApp).
The cloud computing unit emphasized that “open source and commercialization are the only way to build a blockchain operating system.”
According to the post, BBE is built on the ABC technology strategy, which stands for artificial intelligence (AI), big data and cloud computing. The key objective is to boost “the commercial development of blockchain technology.”
Baidu Cloud said that BBE will address a number of shortcomings of existing infrastructure such as single-machine storage, computing bottlenecks, and others. The platform uses “the pluggable blockchain framework to provide developers with a complete multi-chain, middle-tier and various contract templates, Dapp templates and other services to make the development of blockchain business systems faster [and] simple,” it added.
Furthermore, BBE supports deployment on Baidu private cloud, meaning that developers can easily create and manage the blockchain network quickly on the private cloud platform.
The platform has been reportedly developed to offer six key functions – “trusted computing environment, high performance and high throughput, scalable storage, cross-chain trusted interactions, smart contract support, and contract security audits.”
Last year, Baidu released its Baidu Blockchain White Paper V1.0 late last month, which details a “Super Chain” network system.
