BitTorrent, a peer-to-peer file sharing service owned by TRON, has announced its plans to incorporate blockchain technology into its new BitTorrent Live streaming service.

BitTorrent Live is a new live streaming app from BitTorrent which will allow consumers to create live content and connect on mobile devices to people who share common interests. The early access to the service was launched on Thursday, March 28.

In its press release, BitTorrent explained that the live streaming service will provide a social media platform for people to express their creativity and connect with others around the world through live video. Initially, users will be able to search for subjects that interest them and engage directly with the broadcasters to give instantaneous feedback and likes.

"Imagine chatting with your favorite athlete, becoming immersed in a music festival, or meeting new friends to share your passions - all by simply firing up the BitTorrent Live app," said Justin Sun, founder of TRON and CEO of BitTorrent. "Our strong foundation of decentralized technology will allow us to fulfill our vision of a boundary-free internet while being at the forefront of a new content experience."

Going forward, BitTorrent said that BitTorrent Live will incorporate blockchain technology in order to ensure user privacy and ownership while enabling cryptocurrency to be used as a new payment option.

The service will be rolled out globally in phases and will be available for beta testing download in Q2 2019.
