UAE-based recycling and waste management company Bee’ah is teaming up with the Hamriyah Free Zone Authority (HFZA) to launch a blockchain-based Waste Permit Portal, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

The initiative is one of the 15 services that Bee’ah will provide to the HFZA as an environmental solutions service provider for the free zone.

The HFZA Waste Permit Portal is the first such blockchain-based platform and will be used for validating, processing and storing transactions.

By using the portal, customers operating within the free zone would be able to save time and money while applying for permits. It would also help lower the downtime it takes for the issuance of permits from several days to only a few hours.

"In support of the digital revolution in the UAE, we are proud to launch Sharjah’s first blockchain platform,” Khaled Al Huraimel, Group CEO of Bee’ah, said. “Using proven state-of-the-art technology will not only facilitate seamless operations, but also increase trust between customers and operators, and reduce valuable time and resources."

He added that the platform can be integrated into other economic zones across the UAE, and help drive business growth, digital innovation, and better customer experiences.

"Digitising processes like permit applications is a new step toward innovation, and with the use of blockchain technology, we are confident that the processes will witness enhanced security, efficiency and productivity", Saud Salim Al Mazrouei, Director of HFZA and Sharjah Airport International Free Zone, said.
