The scheduled Bitcoin Cash Meetup will still happen, but virtually.
The scheduled Bitcoin (BCH) meetups in Osaka and Tokyo are still happening, but the members won’t be gathering at the same place. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, Japan’s crypto community is not taking any chances, this is despite the less than 1000 reported cases of infection in the country. So, they are doing it virtually, Bitcoin.com reported.
BHC meetup organizer Akane Yokoo notified both Osaka and Tokyo group members that they could still get together online.
“Our virtual meetups will start this coming Wednesday, March 18th from 7:30pm and we plan to host every Wednesday at the same time when our physical meetups happen,” she said.
Although Yokoo doesn’t encourage physical BCH meetups, members are still free to gather if they want to meet each other in person.
“Even though we do not want to encourage members to go out and get sick, members should be free to do whatever they choose to do. If they choose to get together physically, the merchants are open for business as usual,” Yokoo added.
Meanwhile, China said that the drug used in Japan to treat patients who tested positive with coronavirus is effective. Zhang Xinmin, an official at China’s science and technology ministry, shared that patients in Shenzhen who were given favipiravir turned negative from the virus after a median of four days.
“It has a high degree of safety and is clearly effective in treatment, an official at China’s science and technology ministry,” Zhang told reporters (via The Guardian).
The Japanese government, supplied favipiravir as emergency aid to counter the Ebola virus outbreak in Guinea in 2016. However, it still needs the government’s approval for a full-scale use on COVID-19 patients because it was originally intended to treat flu. However, if the results of clinical research are delayed, the approval could also be delayed.
