Opera launches blockchain-ready browser for iOS

Opera, a web browser for Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems, has announced the launch of the iOS version of its blockchain-ready Opera Touch browser.

The company introduced the Crypto Wallet to the Opera browser for Android in December 2018. In April, it launched the desktop version of its browser with a built-in cryptocurrency wallet.

In an online post dated June 26, Charles Hamel, Product Lead of Opera Crypto, said that Opera Touch for iOS will allow users to seamlessly interact with the next generation of Web 3 applications on the Ethereum blockchain.

Opera supports all ERC-20 tokens, stablecoins and non-fungible tokens (NFT). Hamel had previously said that they decided to support Ethereum as it has the largest community of decentralized apps (Dapps).

“This completes our efforts to offer Web 3-ready browsers with built-in Crypto Wallet on Android, Windows, Mac, Linux and now iOS,” he said. “Opera Touch for iOS with Crypto Wallet, like the Opera browser for Android, supports the Ethereum Web3 API, making interacting with dApps seamless, without the need for browser extensions.”

Hamel further announced Opera’s partnership with crypto collectible dApp “Marble.Cards.” The application, he explained, turns web pages into unique digital collectible cards which are registered as NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain.

“The dApp will be accessible via the built-in share feature, and visible in the dApp explorer on the browser’s speed dial, allowing users to create unique Marble cards from urls of their choice,” Hamel said.
