The Copyright Protection Center of China (CPCC) is teaming up with Chinese tech company Xunlei to build a blockchain-powered digital copyright identifier (DCI) system.

Established in 1998, CPCC is the national copyright public service institution supervised directly by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People’s Republic of China (National Copyright Administration of China). Its DCI system plays a significant role in the core infrastructure of the national internet copyright public services.

Xunlei was founded in 2003 and is focused on shared cloud computing and blockchain technology. It launched its blockchain platform, called “Thunderchain,” last April. The website states:

“Leveraging the company's patented distributed technologies and over a decade of experience, Xunlei creatively combines shared computing with blockchain to handle millions of transactions per second (TPS) and realize confirmation in seconds.”

In its capacity as a blockchain services provider, Xunlei will leverage its blockchain capabilities to support the operations of CPCC’s DCI system, particularly in the area of the copyright registration of fine arts and photographic works, the release said.

Through this collaboration, CPCC uses Xunlei’s high performance blockchain service to make its copyright authorization and transaction system more efficient,” Xin Lai, the chief engineer of ThunderChain, said.
