Chilean lawmakers are seeking to bring blockchain technology to the country’s public sector, ZyCrypto reported.
Two parliamentarians, Miguel Angel Calisto and Giorgio Jackson, have proposed blockchain implementation in the public sector and have submitted a proposal on these lines to the parliament.
Calisto and Jackson seek to enhance the quality of cybersecurity and reduce bureaucratic processes of government by leveraging blockchain. They have also recommended further research in this technology to explore other areas where it could be implemented.
“Our interest is to begin a debate in which the public services are debited. The truth is that it is a technology that has a very transformative potential, very revolutionary in terms of technology and the ability to decentralize information,” Jackson said.
Jackson went on state that the proposal was necessitated by a report concerning notaries from the National Economic Prosecutor’s Office. The report suggested that the technology should be implemented in a way that protects sensitive data and maintains data integrity while simplifying sharing it when needed.
Calisto explained that blockchain technology would enable tracking of the work carried out by different public agencies in a transparent and unalterable manner, reducing the possibility of such sensitive data to be used maliciously by others.
“It is the moment that these new technologies that are at the forefront of innovation, are seen as a real option in a Chile that must look to the future and ensure the good of all its citizens,” he added.
