It’s now a lot easier for Austrian cryptocurrency users to make payments for goods and services using their tokens. Payment processor Salamatex partnered with the A1 Payment, one of the country’s largest telecom firms, allowing users to pay with crypto in more than 2,500 merchants, Cointelegraph reported.

The announcement was made by Salamantex in a post made on July 2, 2020. Cryptocurrency users can now pay using digital currencies in over “2,500 points of acceptance using A1 Payment - provided the merchant has activated the feature.” At the moment, the three tokens supported by the system include Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum, (ETH), and Dash (DASH).

Salamantex noted that while Austrian is a country with a high affinity for cash, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic forced the nation to explore cashless payment options to reduce the risk of transmission. In its partnership with A1 Payment, the company assured merchants that the system does not introduce any exchange rate risk as they will still receive the payment in Euros.

“With the integration of the Salamantex service software into the complete A1 Payment package, Austrian retailers can now offer another payment option and thereby accept common cryptocurrencies,” Salamantex added. “Regardless of the payment method used by the customer, the merchant receives the purchase price in Euros and therefore does not incur any exchange rate or currency risk.”

With the preference for using cashless payment options these days, cryptocurrency has seen increasing adoption as well. Salamantex is making it easier for merchants to accept crypto payments since the feature does not have any activation costs. The company also said that new, crypto-capable terminals will be delivered once the feature is activated, which usually happens within one week.

“Our goal is to make paying with digital currencies at the checkout as easy and natural as we have been used to with credit cards for decades,” Salamantex COO Markus Pejacsevich said. “The acceptance of cryptocurrencies opens up new affluent customer groups and enables merchants to position themselves as pioneers in their industry.”

Salamatex is one of the pioneers in the crypto payments niche. It developed the Crypto Payment Service Software and designed it so that it could be easily integrated into any existing payment process.
