Alibaba Cloud, Citi and others join Hyperledger blockchain project

Hyperledger, a cross-industry collaborative blockchain initiative, is hosting its inaugural Hyperledger Global Forum with over 650 attendees.

The event’s first day kicked off today in Basel, Switzerland. At the event, Hyperledger announced that the addition of 16 new organizations as its members.

The latest general members to join Hyperledger include Alibaba Cloud, BlockDao (Hangzhou) Information Technology, Citi, Deutsche Telekom, Guangzhishu (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd, Guangzhou Technology Innovation Space Information Technology Co., Ltd, KEB Hana Bank, HealthVerity, MediConCen, Techrock (formerly Walimai), we.trade and Xooa.

Associate members joining this month include Association of Blockchain Developers of Saint Petersburg, Business School of Hunan University, Sun Yat-sun University and Wall Street Blockchain Alliance. With this, Hyperledger has surpassed 260 members.

"We are starting Global Forum off with a bang with this impressive line-up of new members," said Brian Behlendorf, Executive Director, Hyperledger.

"The growing Hyperledger community reflects the increasing importance of open source efforts to build enterprise blockchain technologies across industries and markets. The latest members showcase the widening interest in and impact of DLT and Hyperledger."

In October, the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance (EEA), a consortium driving the adoption of Enterprise Ethereum, and Hyperledger announced that they have joined each other’s organizations as Associate Members. They sought to work together towards meeting global demand for enterprise blockchain. More recently, Hyperledger announced a new project – a shared cryptography library called ‘Ursa.’
